- Do I have to buy FxFactory to use PolyChrome?
- No, you must install FxFactory but you do not have to purchase it, PolyChrome can be purchased for $99US independently of FxFactory.
- What system configuration do you recommend for working with HD/high precision rendering?
- Because our plugins all run entirely on the GPU on your graphics card the amount of VRAM and the amount of monitors you have both play a factor. On a laptop with only one screen connected you are able to process HD footage in high precision color with only a 256MB graphics card (eg ATI X1600 256MB or Nvidia 8600 256MB). If working with two displays connected you must have a 512MB VRAM graphics card in order to render HD footage in high precision color. Currently we recommend the ATI HD3870 Mac and PC edition 512MB card as the best card for working with CoreMelt plugins. We also recommend 4GB RAM for working on HD / high precision projects.
- Can I use these effects in Motion and After Effects?
- As of version 1.0.1 the transitions can only be used in Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express, a future update will allow them to be used in Motion and After Effects.
- I am having problems with some transitions having a single frame of black at the start.
- This is fixed in version 1.0.1, please download the free update.
- The transitions don't look correct when applied on Picture in Picture layers.
- You need to put your picture in picture layers into a new sequence and then nest that on top of your full frame layer.
eg instead of shrinking down the PiP layer with the motion tab, make a new sequence with all the PIP elements in it.
Add the transitions inside the new sequence, make sure it looks correct. Now add the new sequence on top of the
full frame layer and then use the motion tab of the nested sequence to shrink it to the correct size and position.
The reason why is this crops the transition to the size of the nested sequence, otherwise FCP is calculating the transition effect size on the entire background layer size which will give unwanted results.
- Is PolyChrome Leopard compatible?
- Absolutely, it's been fully tested on Leopard systems, all plugins are capable of running in high precision color on Leopard.
- Do the effects preview in realtime?
- Yes, you need to switch on "unlimited RT" in Final Cut Pro and then all the transitions will play in realtime on the timeline. For best results set playback resolution and frame rate to dynamic and you will be able to get real time preview even on older hardware.
