Introduction
PolyChrome Transitions: 40 GPU accelerated transition effects for Final Cut
Pro
PolyChrome is a new set of transition effects for Final Cut Pro. PolyChrome
both replaces some of the built in transitions and includes a new range of
grunge, and other stylised transitions. There are considerable advantages to
the PolyChrome transitions over the built in FCP effects.
- GPU accelerated. All PolyChrome transitions run entirely on the GPU on PPC
and Intel Macintoshes for faster rendering.
- Render in high precision color. Of the FCP built in effects, only the “cross
dissolve” transition is capable of rendering in high precision. All
PolyChrome transitions have been tested with 10 bit and 12 bit codecs including
footage from the RED camera, 10 bit ProRes footage and other high bit depth
codecs. By doing an online using only the PolyChrome transitions you ensure
that you never truncate your video footage to 8 bit color. This can have
considerable benefits for those doing color grading after an online edit,
film outs from video or other media repurposing.
- Advanced Curves control.
All the PolyChrome dissolves, cross fades and fade in/out plugins include
precise control of your transition curves, either symmetrical or separate
for in and out clips
Effects under “Transitions->CM Basics” are replacements for
FCP’s built in transitions. You may also wish to consider using the “CM
Filmic” dissolves for various styles of transition that mimic optical
film dissolves (as opposed to a video cross fade).
PolyChrome New Transitions:
The other half are new effects, grunge, stylised, and specialized transitions.
These are found under transitions:
- CM Blocks Range of transitions involving breaking the image into blocks.
- CM Distort Transitions which distort the image away in various ways.
- CM Filmic A range of film style dissolves.
- CM Grunge Glitch and grunge transitions which blur, fade or corrupt the image.
- CM Stylistic Transitions which animate the image away in a stylised way.
